Originally created by Rebar, San Francisco art and design collective, PARK(ing) Day is an annual, one-day, global event where artists, activists, and citizens collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spots into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public parks. Anyone can participate in PARK(ing) Day, though it is strictly a non-commercial project, intended to promote creativity, civic engagement, critical thinking, unscripted social interactions, generosity and play.

a good day of parking
Thank you to everyone for making Pittsburgh's 2009 PARK(ing) Day a great success. From what I have heard the day went very well for everyone.

one more day
I don't know about you but I'm pretty happy it's September 17th. From what I've read the weather should be nice tomorrow and since we have more than 20 parks planned for National PARK(ing) Day, things are looking good.
I thought I would whet your palate with a sampling of some of the parks that you will see in Pittsburgh on September 18th.
REI is going to be camping outside their storefront in the SouthSide Works...the Mattress Factory is going to have a game of cornhole going on William Penn Way near the Regional Enterprise Tower (or perhaps I should just say the old Alcoa Building)...Sean Derry is doing something special on Forbes Avenue next to Schenley Plaza in Oakland....Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, Councilman Patrick Dowd, URA and Bike Pittsburgh will be setting up shop on Fourth Street...Tweek will be parking on South Craig Street...Rothschild Doyno Colloborative is creating a themed park titled, "Come Sketch With Us!"
Excited yet??
A map showing the locations of every participant will be posted shortly!

reminder...
If you need a parking permit from the Pittsburgh Parking Authority the deadline to apply is this Friday September 11th...don't forget! The registration form just in case you lost it.
You only need a permit if you plan to use a metered parking space.
The official Pittsburgh PARK(ing) Day posters will be available next week. Everyone should have a poster visible at their park...the meter is a nice location for the poster.

Registration Form
The registration form (not very creative, I know) for everyone that plans to create a park on PARK(ing) Day.
Even if you don't require a permit we want to know where you will be parking for the day.
A master list of every PARK(ing) Day park will be posted to the blog the week of the event.
